With the Breath – A Masterclass with Rod McIntosh

£375.00

Description

Join Rod in his country studio and immerse yourself in his daily rituals and processes that are central to his life and painting practice. Cultivating a greater sense of awareness and being present.

In a world full of digital bombardment, Rod creates powerfully quiet work that is proudly analogue and ancient in the technology that he uses. This experience allows participants to switch off from being ‘on’ 24/7 and step into a space and time that is uniquely offered by Rod.

The masterclass is an opportunity to explore through instruction, demonstrations and self-discovery an understanding and emotional connection with abstract mark making. Using his signature black ink and traditional Asian papers, you will ground yourself in the practice of embodying gesture with the breath. Rod will introduce some simple breath work techniques that he uses alongside mindful brush strokes. Creating original ink paintings that are records of being present in the moment and of the act of creation.

During the experience you will gain confidence to express yourself with a brevity of marks through working with a flow state. Experience painting as an active meditation, create an artefact to take away as a visual touch stone for when you need to return to the breath and calm the body or quieten the mind.

Participants are invited to dine with Rod in the house or garden (weather permitting). A home-made vegetarian lunch is provided. Allergies can be catered for if advance notice is given.
