Art Experience with Caroline Banks

Categories: ,

Join Caroline Banks in her London studio to discover painting and expressive mark making, as well as gilding on paper and canvas. “My aim would be to communicate the energy of mark-making and the freedom and psychological importance of what I call, focused play”.

In 2001 she accepted an offer to go to India for a year with Voluntary Service Overseas, an NGO. The intensity of life there affected her deeply. Bihar, a state in East India bordering Nepal is where the project was based and the birthplace of Buddhism; this was a reflective time for Caroline both personally as well as artistically. Following this experience she worked for an Indian agency taking her all over India, China and Vietnam for a further 6 years. Returning to the UK in 2007 she is now based in London where her work is drawn on the nature of time and memory, recording the intangible.

Before you meet with Caroline you will have a short discussion over email about what you would be looking to achieve in your time together. The day or session will begin with a brief rundown of Caroline’s work and practice with images of work. Moving on to warm-up exercises followed by drawing on paper. You will then progress to brushwork studies derived from your drawing. One study may be selected to develop, then be worked on in different stages with breaks for drying time. For gilding a drying time of approximately half a day should be expected.

This experience is available by appointment on selected dates throughout the year from 10am – 5pm

Lunch in Green Rooms Hotel next door to the studio is included.
